The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, founded in 1914, is one of the oldest and largest veteran service organizations in the United States. Its operational requirements reflect over a century of complexity: member records, event management, voting, charter administration, and reporting across a federated national structure.
The VFW Auxiliary had attempted to move beyond its legacy mainframe with an off-the-shelf AMS. The product proved too rigid for the Auxiliary's specific requirements and was quickly set aside. Member data was fragmented, processes were paper-dependent, and the legacy security model was inadequate.
One Primero designed and built MALTA — a custom Association Management System purpose-built for the VFW Auxiliary's structure, mission, and scale.
A centralized cloud-based database replaced the fragmented data environment. Self-service member portals gave members direct access to their own information, event registration, and online voting. Automated digital workflows replaced paper processes. Security was built to current standards throughout. A microservices architecture allows individual platform components to scale independently.
Members can now self-serve, register for events, and vote digitally, without waiting on paper processes or staff intervention. Administrative load on the Auxiliary's staff has dropped materially. MALTA is the platform the VFW Auxiliary will grow into, not around.
